I think I may have found a template that I can use to remake my website.  It's simple, clean and artistic - and it has minimal flash.  It's shocking how few website templates seem to be designed for a variety of personal content.  There are lots and lots of page designs for photo/art portfolios and plenty that are designed for blog content (and then there are your average business-style sites).  But very few combine the two and allow for something that isn't just a general overview of the hobbies of the site owner.

Any template I use will have to be altered.  Hopefully, I can keep the alterations to a minimum - I prefer to not have to learn a lot of coding and do a lot of graphic-work to get what I need.

Ideally, I would like to hire someone to design a custom site just for me, but that is a lot of money that I don't have to spend on something like that right now.  Maybe after I've completed my photography courses and have a business to advertise.

I think I am going to integrate my wordpress blog into the site.  I am going to keep the articles, book reviews and the sabbat celebration sections.  I might get rid of the BOS section, though.  I'm not as into the educating the newbie masses as I used to be.  I don't mind sharing my opinions and the outer trappings of my practise, but a lot of the rest has become something that is not really for public consumption.  I'm not really looking to create a tradition or gathering followers.

Along with the new look, I think I'll need a new name for the site.  'Into the Land of the Phae' is kind of fun and kind of whimiscal, but I think it's also indicitive of a much younger me.  The new site is going to be more visual, more modern, more reflective of where I'm at now in my life.  I think I need a title that will reflect that - something shorter, sleeker - something memorable.

Anyway, that is the plan as it stands now.  How fast it comes together depends on how calm life decides to be for the next while.  Hopefully, the snow of last week is the last we will see this year.  It was up to about 10C today and sunny.  It was great!  I didn't realize how bad the cabin fever was until I was actually outside and running around.

Yay for spring!

So, we are finally starting to sort ourselves out at the new house, and our month of utility deposits and poverty is nearly at an end (payday is just 2 days away!!!). In that time, we've had a lot more time for things like cooking and getting our movie server all set up (especially because we lost the remote for the DVD player and it can't be used until it set up again, which requires the remote). And now our beloved server Tuna can host websites in addition to all its other nifty tricks.

This has me inspired to spend a little time working on my photos and getting a new version of my own website going. Now that I have a decent kitchen, I can start making my Sabbat Celebrations section pretty - crafts and recipes are alway better when there are photos of what you should get at the end.

I think I will start with the Equinox. I was supposed to have a housewarming party then, anyway (though, who knows if that will actually happen).

Gotta run back to work now.  More later.

Yay!

Hey All,

I have spent the last few days working on my website (I had started re-doing it a while ago, and for some reason or other, stopped), and I am about ready to start on the Pagan Perspectives page (ie - the articles).  I have added images to all of my book reviews in order to help people know what to look for when they are at the library or bookstore.

I don't know about most people, but I have an easier time remembering images than I do titles or authors.  Anyway, this got me to thinking about adding images to my articles.  Nothing fancy, maybe just a photo or cute clip art that sort of illustrates the gist of the article.

My question is ... do you think that anyone would appreciate that, or am I just making more work for myself?  I know that at times, it is easier to just skim things rather than actually slow down and read them.  Do you think that an image would help to grab your attention (like newspaper articles often have)?

Have to run, let me know what you think.

Thanks guys,

Busy Weekend

Ok, so website update is mostly done. I am currently working on the new additions to the BoS. I have to write up my Apple visualisation (I'll be putting it up for the C&P crowd before I put it up on the site), and I think I want to write an article as well ... maybe about tools or about the symbolism of the apple.

I worked on Jet's Lessons a bit today, too. Luckily, that I am finding that a lot of my list can be compiled under  larger headings, so I should only have about three or four left. I am gonna take on the hard one later this week (or next weekend).

The weather was gorgeous on Saturday ... kind of cloudy and cold yesterday, and back to gorgeous again this afternoon. I am betting it will be beautiful all the rest of the week because I have to be inside Tongue Out 12

I have discovered what might be causing my plants to be dying off this year. Apparently, you aren't supposed to water your plants with tap water anymore because of anti-bacterial agents which kill all the bacteria in the soil. So, that sucks hard. I am gonna pick up some plant food in the hopes that I haven't done too much damage to them.

That is about all for now. Tomorrow will be my first day of work out of training. So that is pretty exciting Grin 4

The pink hair thing didn't work very well.  It ended up looking a bit like paste, so I am now on the look out for pink permanent dye so that I can put in real streaks.  I will not be thwarted!  LOL  Surprisingly enough, pink isn't all that easy to find.  Red, purple, orange are everywhere, but pink - no so much.

I still have a packet of blond dye.  I think I am going to put in light highlights in the mean time while I search the city for the pink.  Now that I think about it, I figure I probably should start working on the outline of my 'Glamour' article.  And maybe write up an update on my self-image spell (and maybe a plan to renew/recharge it).

That is about all that is on my mind right now.  It has been a very lazy day for me.  The days are starting to have that feeling of summer vacation.  I miss that.  Time to visit the farm markets and the local wineries.

I am continuing to update my website, and I decided to spend today doing my book reviews (yesterday was sabbats). I figured that it would be great to have an image of the cover art in the review (people like pictures). Then I thought, 'well, why not a link too?'

Long story short, I signed up to be an affiliate with Amazon, and they have new cool stuff for their links. Check it out (mouse over the book art) --->

THAT IS JUST SO COOL!!  Yay!  I should have the current reviews updated and the new reviews written by the weekend.  I am really excited now about updating my site (I have decided that new articles aren't happening until I fee like writing them.

Every time I go to work on my webpage lately, I think again about how I want to redo it. *sigh* I am blaming WD and the fact that I can now finally use my own photoes.

This is my new title bar (it may or may not get further than this):

Well, that is my productivity for the night. Nite folks!

I slept in late today!  Well, late for me (which was about 11am).  Then no coffee, so that kind of sucks.  I hope my postings in PC were at least a little bit coherant.  I think that the eight hour days have finally caught up with me.  I think it is something that will just take a bit of getting used to.

My grandmother is coming to visit (well, I guess they are already here, but I won't see them until Saturday).  She is really excited about me having a new job.  She is always saying how I need to be working in someplace that lets me be creative.  Which isn't something I really get at New Job, yet.  I am sure that there are other things that I could move into that would let me do some interesting stuff.  And I have (in the new slang of WD) a 'metric buttload' of hobbies.

I am going to get back to writing on my breaks and at lunch.  Visitng and chatting with folks is fun, but I am starting to feel like I have been neglecting everything.  I am also going to start taking a book to read so that if I don't feel like writing, I at least have something to do other than play online poker (which is great, but gets a little boring after a while ... I am *so* not an addicitive personality - LOL).

Last night we learned about the most boring tool we will ever use.  One that is left over from the very beginning of the company.  It is a DOS program that prints out huge text file reports (and when I say huge, I am talking about the smallest scrollbar that windows will give you).  Holy crap, is that ever an eyestrain!  I really hope to never be in a position where I need to do that very frequently.

As I type this, I just got another email through my website *cringe*.  I guess I should go and answer the ones I have been putting off forever.  Anyway, still loving the job ... still very confident and thrilled that I will be doing something that is a little more mentally stimulating.  It gets old when you are basically just a face for people to yell at.

Yesterday I wrote 2200 words and typed out nearly 1000 more.  I found the parts that I had written from last time and had either neglected to type or had typed and somehow lost.  I also realized that I am not as far along in the re-read and edit process as I had thought.  Which sucks, but it will give me a chance to figure out just what is said already and what needs to be added.

I had thought that I had written a prologue, but I guess not as I cannot find it anywhere, and only vaguely remember what it would have said anyway.  I think I will wait until I have actually finish the 'writing it all out' process before I worry about that.  I am getting more insight into how Ella works, how her vices fit into her personality and the new subplot is fitting in rather seemlessly (like it always should have been there), which is good.

It is sunny and gorgeous today, and I am exhausted from staying up until 2am writing and typing.  But, when you have to get it out of your head, there isn't a lot of choice.  I tend to find that writing at night is how I do it best anyway.

In other news - I am thinking that I am going to be redesigning my website yet again (I know I am not even finished with the first redesign).  I have been inspired recently to use photos for the art of my page, and on my walk home from the market the other day, I got some really beautiful shots.  The trees are all in bloom right now, and the streets are carpeted in pink and white petals.  I love spring :)

The new job is set to start at the end of the month.  I am still trying to juggle how I am going to do the training weeks (which will be Mon-Fri) while I am hanging on to my other job.  So far, I have decided to just take the first week off entirely, and take it from there.  They are not very firm on details, which is very frustrating.  I am getting a little sick of hearing 'when I know something, you'll know something', but what are you gonna do?

That is about all with me at the moment.  Or it is all that my coffee-deprived mind can think of at the moment.  I will prolly try to post something new for the C&P crowd today or tomorrow.

Happy Weekend (even though it isn't a weekend for me)!
