I'm asking this here, because just about everyone I know who would probably know the answer hangs out here.  At least I hope you all still do :)

If I purchase a pattern for something, say a sweater or a skirt or whathaveyou, can the designer put the condition on the copyright that I cannot then sell the product that I have made?  To me it seems like reaching.  I get not reselling the pattern online, but if I've paid for the instructions, do they really retain the right to decide what I do with something that they didn't make?

I've seen this a couple of times on patterns on ravelry, and I'm thinking that that really can't be enforceable in anyway.  Just because you design something doesn't mean that you own all connections to it until the end of time.  It's reasonable if you are giving it away - maybe - I'm not up on copyright law - but it would seem to me to be in line with having a school teach you how to do something (run a business, lets say) and then saying afterwards that you can't run a business that makes any money because the knowledge you now have is copyrighted to them.

Thoughts?
The lovely Pacific Northwest has decided to take a page from the interior. It is snowing like ... I don't even know what it's like. I haven`t seen snow like this since I lived on the island.

It's been coming down almost non-stop all week. The salt trucks can barely keep up with it. I drove our new/old little car one day and that was enough for me.

It's really strange. This will be the first white Yule/Xmas we've had in a really long time. And we are supposed to be moving at the end of next month. I hope it stops snowing by then.

And while I don't feel particularly festive or spiritual, I am excited for a new phase in our lives. A new apartment or house. A new year. New possibilities.

I have been very hermitish for a very long time. I haven't even been reading LJ regularly anymore.  I feel a little disconnected, but it isn't really a bad feeling.  I think I might have finally purged myself of giving a damn what other people claiming to be Pagan/Wiccan/Witches do - which is a good thing, I think.

I am still addicted to those silly Dragon things -  a strange habit I am trying to break.

I have also started knitting again.  After a $100+ trip to the yarn store, I started knitting a new sweater (check it out on Ravelry, if you're interested).  The snow has made me much more eager to finish it quickly.  I am ready for spring now.

I think I owe three, so here goes:

Day 9: I am grateful for hot coffee and short lines at Tim Hortons.  I don't think I would be able to function these days without my morning joe.

Day 10:  I am grateful for knitting.  When I am too sore to swim (as was the case yesterday), I can still spend a few minutes making a nice toque to wear for when I finally do go completely crazy (it's really just a matter of time, you'll see).

Day 11:  Today, I am grateful for August in general.  I love the way the weather can't really decide if it wants to be really hot or if it wants to be cool and breezy.  It eases me into fall in a really nice way - plus it gives me a chance to be outside without melting ;)

Happy Monday, all - I am back to work again.

Well, I have been knitting like crazy for the last couple of weeks, and I have some stuffs to show off.  First is my new scarf for this year.  The only one that I actually LIKE once it was finished (I learned a lot about blocking and the bane of my life that is acrylic yarn).  And the second is a pair of very cool arm warmers.

I have a couple of people at work who want to learn to make them and a couple more who want to pay me to make them for them.  Yay!  I are a trend setter! LOL

I also made Knitty's Cleaves, but I don't have any pics of that just yet.  Yay!  Knitting!

Why is it that on the eve of all of my latest planned spells do I wake up sick as a dog? I finally have everything that I need and I am ready to go! Or I would be if my head didn't feel like a brick and I had that ability to take a deep breath. Dammit!

Now, I have to wait until I am feeling better. I was kind of hoping to get this whole thing taken care of ... you know, get some answers and make whatever adjustments are needed or just get back into the regular swing of things. Perhaps that is hoping for too much. I have this sneaking fear that this will only be the beginning and things are about to get weirder and scarier from here.

On another, more mundane note, I think my cat has a cold too. He has been sneezing all over the place the last few days (specifically in my face so that I don't miss it). I am a little worried about him. I didn't know that cats could get colds, and I really don't know what I should do (if anything).

On the plus side, feeling this crappy has allowed me to get some knitting done. I stole [livejournal.com profile] pendamuse's idea and made some dark crimson Opera Gloves and laced them with black ribbon. I love them! They were so fast! Now I am thinking of making myself a new toque. Or a Patchwork blanket ... I do have a lot of scrap yarn.

I promised to teach my brother's girlfriend how to knit, so I am gonna have to find something fun and easy for her to start with too.

Anyway, that is the news (and whining) from me. Enjoy your regularly scheduled day.

And not just any scarf ... a Harry Potter scarf! It should be done in time for me to wear to the new movie when it comes out!

That is my excitement for the day (yeah, I know I should be writing ... I will today, I promise ~_^)

So, with everyone going on about knitting and such, I decided to finish my new sweater that I started a few years ago (to replace my well loved ugly house sweater).

A couple of days ago, my fiancé wanted to pick up a new chopper magazine, and I went too, hoping to find a certain decorating magazine that I really enjoyed, but seems to not be carried in Canada anymore. We went to Chapters and were perusing their ample magazine section, and I came across a couple of knitting magazines (and some beading ones). There were some great modern patterns (none of that family stuck in the seventies looking sweaters that litter the yarn aisle in just about every store).

So, now I am really excited, I grab a KNITS, and a beading magazine, and at home as I am trying to decide what sweater I want to make next, I come across an ad for colourful stitches ... in it the girl is all smiling in her new scarf, mittens, and toque. What is around her neck? A pentacle. It is a sign! Pagan Knitters Unite! LOL
