I think I mentioned before that I am going to start redoing my website - finally.  The part I want to start with is the Sabbat celebrations.  I sort of missed out on Ostara because life sort of got away from me that week.  I did make a nice dinner, and got some great pics, which I will post later.  Not Ostara party calibre, but a good start.

What I am focussing on now is Beltane.  I want to do a bit of decorating and have a nice big meal as well.  So, to start, I am going to want to plan out the menu, and I am coming to my trusty FList for some suggestions.

What are some of your favourite foods/drinks/etc to indulge in on Beltane.  What sorts of decorations/crafts do you usually use to make your space festive?

This year we're putting up a MAYPOLE!! I am way more excited than you can imagine. Tim put the ground mount in yesterday, and I'll be painting the pole this coming weekend, weather permitting. The we just need to create the ring for the top and attach the dance ribbons.

This pole will be reusable year after year, as it is a recycled PVC pipe. Weather resistant! It will be about 10' tall when in its mount, so plenty tall enough.

For food, we'll probably go with the first fruits of spring- asparagus, strawberries, and if I can find some, lamb. I'd love to do a whole suckling pig, but we probably won't have enough people to justify that much meat. I'll also do a sprouted grain salad. We don't grow our own wheat, but it seems fitting to serve grain sprouts while we're blessing the crops, hoping for a good crop of staple foods, and grain is our basic staple. If I can afford to, I'll also make a batch of short mead (and put up a batch of proper mead for next year at the same time).

I love nylon butterflies. They're pretty without being cutesy, if they're done even half well. I have reached the end of cutesy in my life. The youngest child is ten and not cutesy. Pretty-pretty pink by the gallon is finally over!!! Now I can enjoy it again, because I'm not inundated with it day in and day out.

Are you allowed a folding clothesline? If so, you can use the same socket for the maypole. :) (That's my plan. I just have to find the right clothesline now)

Decorations for Beltane

Merry Meet! I am also thinking of Beltane. I saw a cute butterfly wreath from Hobby Lobby but was done in muted brownish gray tones and was thinking of doing the same thing but using the colors of Beltane. It is just butterfly shapes cut out of cardstock with scrapbook paper adhered to them and attached to a wire frame. I also like to BBQ but will see what the financial situation will let me get at the store. As for other decorations I tend to focus on my altar area: I have a small maypole and a "balefire". Have a wonderful Beltane. I am glad I stumbled onto your blog. I was wondering where you got the really cool Practical Magic mood icons and also if you ever found anymore info on the online wicca schools? Brightest of Blessings to you!
