Temporary Filter

I am going to put up a temporary filter for Wickets discussion and planning.  It is really only until we find an alternative method of communication.  I really liked the idea of a Yahoo group.  I think that would be great.  Anyone who wants to be in on the planning stage, reply to this post and I will add you in.

Thanks folks, for your support.  Note:  You can still be in on the planning even if all you want to do is read.  I am not going to make people be more involved than they want to be - I know that a lot of folks are still burned out from the planning of PC.

I would love to help plan, but know that my style is to mostly lurk unless I really feel I have to say something. We need something to take TTs place, only without the drama.

I don't mind lurkers. And this way if you have an idea or a comment, you can always bring it up.

Yahoogroups are... different from forums. Less cohesive, because not everyone uses the same method to reach them. (Some do email, some do daily archives, some do web access only.)

While they can have a strong sense of community (AmberandJet manages it, and so do witchesthree and witcheswithbrains, and no doubt several others I haven't seen), they do lack some features we've come to like in the forums--avatar/sig ability, profiles, different areas with archives that stay active.

And the only moderation ability is "force all of this person's posts to be approved by a mod before posting."

The message archives are either "all public" or "all private"--and I'm a lot more cautious about posting on public Yahoogroups than public forums, because they're a lot more tied into the search engines.

They do have the nifty file-hosting ability, and scheduling, and they come with chat. I've missed chat.

I meant a Yahoo group for the planning stage rather than a LJ comm. I want Wickets itself to be a real forum (with all of the pretties ;)

No worries. I think this will be easier because we are going with something more tried and true rather than trying to make something new whole cloth. Whenever you want to put in your input, we'll be happy to hear it :)

Not really interested in the planning (because I'm lazy, and because, well, because I hate "committee work"), but I'd love to come by once you get it up and running.

Definitely. The filter is only temproary until I figure out how to work a Yahoo group. Planning things through LJ turned out to not really work well at all.

And it will take me some time to find and learn a forum software (even Beehive) enough to get the forum up and going.

UTWFC (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UTWFC/) is open for you to use. My honey's the owner, and is ready to help out as well.

It's currently set up so that anyone can join from the front page, but we can hide it and set it so that folks can only join by invite, or they need to be "approved" if that would work better for the planning stuff. (It would cut down on the ability of folks who have proven to be a problem to be a problem here/there.)

I think there are around 15 folks still on the list. I think you know most of them, and the couple that I *know* you don't know (Alta and Marvin) I can vouch for.
