Gotta Rant ...

... well, snark, really, I am too tired to rant. Ok, so I am not even halfway through the second chapter in 'To Stir', and I think I finally understand why so many younger pagans think that Wicca is too hard for them. In the 'Daily Devotions' section she expects people to do devotions (preferably five) every day. Some of the rituals she gives as examples are really long ... one is for cleansing and consecrating your ritual tools ... who does this everyday?? Who has time for five rituals a day? I mean, most of the time I have a hell of a time fitting a ten minute meditation into my day (though, I know I need to make more of an effort ... help me destress).

Also, I stumbled across a line that I think is a classic ... I will always think about it whenever I come across a fluffy (from page 26):

"Logic and negative thoughts stifle intuition, twisting it from truth, resulting in self-doubt and destruction of self-esteem."

Yeah, I have only been able to read it in bursts ... it gives me a headache when I try to read it for too long. No further bursting rants yet (aside from her attitude that can't seem to decide if she is distainful of BTWs or envious ... and thus pretending to be one). Another quote for you (from pg. 11):

After many years of personal and group training, I have discovered that those who spout about "the mysteries" in vague terms are merely trying to impress others or hide the fact that they never figured the mystery out."

My supposedly daily devotions take about 20 minutes. I sometimes manage them as much as four times in the same week.

I think I managed to do a Ha Prayer daily for about a two-week stretch. And it was fairly intense.

Cleanse tools every day? Whodahell uses their tools every day? You don't take the china out of the cabinet to wash it and put it back... maybe once in a while to keep the dust off, but not daily. (And if they're done right, they don't need to be reconsecrated.)

And I just love the idea that logic is to be avoided... wonder how she'd face someone who says "you know, all your arguments against drug use in ritual are logical ones."

Bah, she doesn't contradict herself ... it only looks that way because you are not a "Real Witch" (tm) ... LOL

The attitude is what gets me ... she has this big 'Our Religion' thing going on when she talks about Witches and Pagans ... like we are all the same ... bleh
