The Great Community Purge

In case anyone cares:

I have purged a lot of excess communities from my FList.  I have been meaning to do it for a while.  Some are redundant icon comms, but most notabley, I am done with the snarking comms.

They used to be funny, but now, it's just gotten really old.  I see no reason why people can't vent in their own personal journals, and really, seeking out people online to make fun of or 'stalk and hunt' has never sat well with me. 

I have removed dot_bunnyhunt as well.  I should have done it a long time ago.  I feel a lot lighter severing my connection to that place.

Anyway, I am going to go and make myself something yummy to eat and forget how much online communities other than mine piss me off.

I'm still sorting out comms and flists. I'm in the process of moving to IJ; I'll eventually be posting much more there than here. I feel like dropping a bunch of comms--OTOH, I don't really know which small handful of them I'll want to keep up with six months from now.

I have mixed feelings about the snark comms. For a while, they were fun; then they were grating; then I decided that they were an active & vital part of online paganism (or fandom or whatever), and if I visit flufftwit forums "to see what people hang out there & what they think," I should stick with the snark comms for the same reasons.

I'd forgotten how vehement the "I'm not Wiccan and you're not either!" crowd can get.

That's the reason I left nonwiccanwitch. I am not interested in defining myself by what I am not. And what a group of folks who live scattered across the world think of my practise and what I should call it doesn't matter in the slightest to me anymore.

No one locally cares about what ever changing list of specific qualities makes you good enough to call yourself by a specific label. There are a lot of different labels that people can go by, and there are groups in all of them that are just like the 'You aren't Wiccan' folks. Figuring that they get to decide that they know your faith better than you do.

I'm not interested in fitting inside boxes anymore. And I am not interested in trying to convince people that they need to open their eyes to what IS happening rather than sticking their fingers in their ears and trying to pretend that it isn't.

bleh.

I am most happy when I am just living my path, and not worrying about what anyone else says about it. I need to get back to working on getting Wickets moved and running now that my life has calmed down again.

One of the things I love about LJ, I cna be a member without having that sort fo thing clutter my Flist.

I seldom read them, except when someone tells me I should.

Once in a blue moon the snark is off badly base, and it needs someone to come in and speak reason. I guess you could say I am a troll in reverse. (wait...that made my head hurt)

LOL - that works. Though, I think that only works if the people are willing to listen and not try to eat you. I can hold my own, but I have to actually want to change their minds ... which I don't think I do anymore.

I think that this is something that I have been on the verge of doing ever since I saw someone attempt to snark Jet's course. That fell flat, but only because the rest of that group knew her. I have a feeling that if they didn't, there would have been a lot more support.

I think that there are far too many people in those comms who are there are making fun of everyone just so that they don't become targets themselves. And that is no way to learn your path.

The nastiness on those comms (and any others where people get together just to say "we're this, and you're not: look how ignorant and stupid you are. Just shut up and listen to us and do what we say, and then you might learn something")just distract people from the path. And what's worse is that the so-called "leaders" who waste time in those comms know it, and they know better.

I have better things to do. Yes, I get snarky and annoyed. That's what certain filters in my personal LJ are for. I get snarked by others, too. It pisses me off, until I realize that those people know nothing about me or my relationship to my clan and my gods, which is Personal with a Capital P.

Time wasted.

Exactly. It has taken me FAR too long to come to that understanding. What label I should call my path to be 'accepted' by faceless strangers online is not at all important.

I know that I am not a twit (or if I am, I don't care), and that is what matters.

I mainly stay on dot_pagan_snark to see if anyone snarks me or someone I know (I was snarked a while back for having written A Field Guide to Otherkin). I left the rest behind because, honestly, I don't need that kind of negativity in my life.
