It's actually a fairly old phrase - shows up in Dorothy Sayers, of all people, in a way that's deliberately ironic. (My family uses it, too, though we also use it with the awareness it's not right.)

I think I may have to steal it, just to see if anyone catches on. I'm starting to relish the weird looks I get when I order something 'sans' an ingredient.
