I mean, really! Those stupid things are *such* a scam! Who can't figure out that 'LOHIDAY' is 'HOLIDAY' really poorly scrambled? Why not just have a commercial that says 'Hey, we know that you are a texting addict. Text this number and give us your credit card information.' That at least would get points for honesty. :P

I finished my first book of the year, and I was going to wait until I had a couple to post this, but I am bored, putting off doing stuff I should be doing, and waiting for WD to get home with his copy of the Burning Crusade.

A post by [profile] paperspirit gave me the idea to try and tinker with my own lj image space (also, I have never used the rich text editor before), so here it goes:

Guardian of the Trust - by Irene Radford

This is the second book in the Merlin's Descendants series.  It takes place in the time of Robin Hood and King John Plantegent.  A lot of well researched history in this one, and a great story.  There is even a reprinting of the Magna Carta in the back (boy was that a snooze!).  I hadn't finished reading this one the first time I tried because I couldn't get into the story when I was in an Arthurian mood, but I like how she is weaving the tale of the continuation of the Pendragon of Britian and their magic and how they are basically shaping Britian from the background.

I especially like how they present magic.  It is Pagan/Elemental/Earth magic, but it isn't as New Age as the magic in MZB's books (which at times kind of wrecks the flow of the story), and it also has just enough jazz to make it exciting.  I am eager to read the next in the series, which will be Guardian of the Vision and is set in the 18th century.
