So, What's the Deal with MySpaces?

What exactly *is* Myspace? I have looked at a few out of curiosity's sake, but most just make my eyes want to bleed. Are they another blog-type thing? Or is it more of a static webpage (for people who don't want to learn how to make them)? Or is it just where people post pictures of themselves (and the most obnoxious music they can find)?

I have been told that I should get one, but I am really not seeing anything in it that would make me want to put in the effort of creating yet another place on the internet to showcase my special brand of self promotion. I was hoping that perhaps if anyone on flist has one, they could explain it a bit to me.

Perhaps I am just getting old and resist to change ~_^

It is where the teen/pre-teen group can go - spell badly, show indecent pics and basically behave badly without making us meenie poopoo heads nuts. Not to mention trying to read that stuff!
It is a place they feel safe to put all der impo-tant stuff yo! - little do they realize many parents have dummy accounts to oversee their little darlins....

And my girls KNOW I'm on there, and that's how we keep in touch. They know that Mom is around, so it keeps them on their bestest behavior. They also know that Mom can find them anywhere on the net, and will, and if they choose to behave badly, I'll knock them upside the head.

I'm a meaniepoopoohead Mom. And they loves me for some reason. :D

I got a myspace account because it seems like every horror author, reader, and publisher I know has one - I've found it a wonderful way to network, but useless for much else.

I have a myspace. My hubby and i both have them because we can use it to email one another without the navy being able to read our messages. He also uses it to keep in touch with people and what not. And I use it for local networking from time to time when i get off my butt and go looking for other pagans. Overall it's not bad, but for the most part, i use it for very specific things, so i avoid most of the ninny's.
