Been a bit bored today. I sketched an idea for an Aquarius painting, and I've written 3 blog articles. Which got me to wondering if I should be putting my stuff out there a little more again. My blog has its followers, but I know I could be reaching more folks. Witches&Pagans magazine accepts articles and artwork (and pays), and I know that there is always Witchvox.
Does anyone go to WV anymore? I know I haven't been there in a long time, but there seemed to be no shortage of articles. There is an awful lot of 'How I Became a Witch/Fluffy/Not Fluffy/Etc' articles, which is just stupidly boring. How many conversion stories can you really read before it just all blurs together? Yeah, yeah, Christianity wasn't for you; you read a book and it changed your life. Yawn.
The question then becomes, what do I want to contribute? Most of these places want something that hasn't been published elsewhere before. My only problem with that is that a lot of my inspiration comes from blog projects that I've been involved with. I guess what I can do is write an article as a blog post and just keep it to myself until after I hear back about submissions.
But then I also start thinking about contributing artwork. And it occurs to me that while I do like Pagan artwork, I don't think I've really created any myself (other than the fact that all of my artwork is Pagan because I am). My work tends to be more fantasy related than modern Pagan. Though, I suppose I could do something that would work in a Pagan publication. Maybe a small set of tarot cards (4 suit cards or a few of my favourite major arcana), maybe a set of seasonal works, a symbol piece here and there. Maybe some small quick and easies would help to build my skills a bit more.
Though, knowing me, the quick and easies would not stay that way. They would quickly morph into something big and elaborate. Because I suck that way. Maybe if a did a couple of animals they would stay small pieces. A butterfly, a bear, a magpie, a raven ... we will have to see. I'll keep my sketchbook close today to see if anything bubbles up.
